The Oracle Academy helps more than 1.9 million students gain industry-relevant skills in the field of Computer Science. To help educators awaken and deepen students’ interest in these important fields of study, the Oracle Academy makes available CS education resources that are up-to-date, industry-relevant, and engaging.

The challenge

It may seem like a small fete adding a poster to our portfolio, but this poster means alot to us.

When Isaac from JKUAT Computer Science Department first approached us for help, he was on a deadline. He was part of a committee that was organising the Oracle Students Academy in JKUAT with the theme "What you study matters". He wanted a poster that would appeal to not only the Computer Science Students but to the rest of the unversity.

JKUAT has a variety of courses, and programmers exist in any field including finance and soil engineering. This event was meant to appeal to all these students, yet many of them did not know what Oracle does. Oracle was ready to exploit a new crop of curious students and our task was to deliver the students to them. Their expectation was to cover 150 students at most since thats what normally happens to such events.

Our idea was to be as minimal as possible to capture the attention of the students and leave them eager to attend the event. We also had to mask the geek nature of the event and make it seem interesting.

The outcome

The result of this poster got the curiosity of many students who were expecting a celebrity of some sort to come and sing about education, leading to a turnout of more than 400 students. Small details really do make a big impact.

"Our initial target was 15o students, and its amazing how many many people turned up. The creative posters really worked! Thank you Michael for the good work."
